llms.txt Generator
Tell AI assistants what your site is and which pages to trust.
llms.txt is a proposed convention, not a standard any assistant is obliged to read. Publish it at your site root - it costs nothing and some crawlers already look for it.
What it checks
- Writes a Markdown file headed by your site name, or by the domain if you leave the name blank.
- Places your one-line summary as a blockquote under the heading.
- Turns each Title | /path line into a link under a Key pages heading, made absolute with your site address.
- Adds a Notes section with an attribution line and your canonical home URL.
- Builds the file in your browser, ready to copy or download as llms.txt.
Reading the result
Treat the key pages as the short tour you would give a new colleague: pricing, your main product or service pages, documentation and the about page. Ten good links say more than a hundred; leave out tag archives, login pages and thin pages.
Read the Notes section before you publish. The attribution line says your content may be quoted with credit to your site; edit or delete it if that does not match how you license your content.
Upload the file to the root of your site so it loads at /llms.txt, then open that address to confirm it is served as plain text. Update it when you add or retire a key page, so it never points at pages that are gone.
Questions
Will llms.txt get my site cited in AI answers?
Not on its own. Assistants cite pages they can fetch and understand, so the pages you link still need clear answers, structured data and crawl access. The AI Answer Readiness Check shows how one page measures up.
How is llms.txt different from robots.txt?
robots.txt tells crawlers what they may fetch. llms.txt describes your site and points to the pages worth reading; it does not allow or block anything.
Should the links point to Markdown versions of my pages?
The proposal suggests offering .md copies, but links to ordinary HTML pages work too. If you publish .md copies, change the paths in your list to point at them.
This checks one page, once. Your crew checks every page, every week, and fixes what it finds.
