Build Reach By Replying, Not Posting
A feed shows your post to a sample of your existing followers, so with few followers there is no sample and post quality is close to irrelevant. Posting harder into that is the most common wasted year in social distribution. A reply is shown to the audience of the account you replied under, which is the only mechanism that produces reach before you have any of your own. This is separate from community posting: the currency here is a visible reply on a stranger's post, not standing inside a forum.

# Build Reach By Replying, Not Posting
A feed shows your post to a sample of your existing followers, so with few followers there is no sample and post quality is close to irrelevant. Posting harder into that is the most common wasted year in social distribution. A reply is shown to the audience of the account you replied under, which is the only mechanism that produces reach before you have any of your own. This is separate from community posting: the currency here is a visible reply on a stranger's post, not standing inside a forum.
## What you need first
- twenty to thirty accounts your buyers already read, with a rough sense of how often each posts
- a subject you can add to rather than agree with
- notifications configured so you see their posts within the first hour
## Method
1. Build the list from who your existing customers and peers follow, not from who has the largest numbers, because the point is the right passers-by rather than the most of them.
2. Reply early. Reply visibility is largely a function of arriving in the first fifteen to sixty minutes, and an excellent reply six hours late is seen by nobody.
3. Make every reply a standalone contribution: an extra case, a number, a condition where the claim breaks. Agreement adds nothing and is shown to nobody.
4. Never pitch and never link in a reply. The link belongs on the profile people visit after reading it, and that visit is the entire conversion path.
5. Keep the profile and pinned post current before you start, since reply-driven reach converts through the profile and a stale pinned post wastes every visit you earn.
6. Measure profile visits and follows per week rather than likes on replies. Reply likes are close to meaningless; profile visits are the actual output of the method.
7. Once your own posts reach beyond your follower count, shift the ratio back towards posting. Replying is a starter mechanism, not a permanent position.
## What this produces
A reply list, a daily reply routine, and a weekly profile-visit figure tracked against the week you started.
## Where this goes wrong
- replying with agreement or praise, which is invisible to the ranking and to the reader
- dropping your link into replies, which gets the reply collapsed and the account rate-limited
- replying under large but irrelevant accounts, which produces followers who will never buy, link or refer

Use this skill in your own AI
The download is a plain markdown file with the name and trigger in its frontmatter. Where an assistant supports skills it can load itself, that frontmatter is what it reads to decide this one applies.
Claude Code
Save it as ~/.claude/skills/reply-led-reach-building/SKILL.md and Claude loads it on its own when what you are doing matches the trigger line. Put it in .claude/skills inside a project instead if the whole team should have it.
Claude
Upload the file in the skills section of your settings. Once it is there it applies itself in any conversation where the trigger fits, so you do not have to remember it exists.
ChatGPT
There is no skills format to install into, so paste the file contents into a Project instruction or a Custom GPT instead. It then applies to every chat in that project rather than only the one you paste it into.
Anything else
Paste the markdown into the chat before your question. It works in any assistant, it just has to be pasted again each time.
Questions about this skill
When is replying the right method rather than posting more often?
When your posts reach almost nobody because you have no audience yet. A feed shows a post to a sample of your existing followers, so with few followers there is no sample and post quality is close to irrelevant. A reply is shown to the audience of the account you replied under, which is the only reach mechanism available before you have your own.
What do I need in hand before starting?
Twenty to thirty accounts your buyers already read, built from who your customers and peers follow rather than who has the largest numbers, notifications set so you see posts inside the first hour, and a current profile with a pinned post. Skip the profile and every visit you earn is wasted, since the profile is the entire conversion path.
What do I end up with, and what should I measure?
A reply list, a daily routine, and a weekly profile-visit figure tracked against the week you started. Profile visits and follows are the output; likes on replies are close to meaningless and will flatter you for months. Once your own posts reach beyond your follower count, shift the ratio back to posting, because this is a starter mechanism.
What ruins this most often?
Replying with agreement or praise, which is invisible to the ranking and to the reader, so months of daily effort produce nothing. Dropping your link into a reply gets it collapsed and the account rate-limited. The quiet one is timing: reply visibility depends largely on arriving in the first fifteen to sixty minutes, so an excellent late reply is seen by nobody.
