# Distribute In Communities Without Getting Banned
Communities are the highest-converting distribution channel available and the easiest one to lose permanently. The obvious approach - find relevant threads and drop your link - triggers automod rules that most posters never see, and once a domain is on a subreddit spam filter it stays there without notification. Recovery is far more expensive than prevention, so the method is built around earning posting rights and around never being the only person who links your domain.
## What you need first
- a shortlist of communities where your audience actually posts, not where your topic is merely on-topic
- an account with genuine history in each, or the willingness to build one over weeks
- the written rules and the visible unwritten norms of each community
## Method
1. Read each community's rules and then read the last month of removed-post explanations in the modlog or in mod comments, because the enforced rules are consistently stricter than the written ones.
2. Build a comment-first history in each place: a few weeks of useful replies with no links at all, so your account has karma or standing before your domain ever appears.
3. Check whether your domain is already filtered before investing - post a link from a throwaway or check in a sandbox subreddit, then view it logged out. A post visible to you and invisible logged out is shadow-removed.
4. When you do share, post the substance in the body and the link as a source at the end, so the post survives on its own if a mod strips the URL.
5. Cap self-linking at roughly one in ten of your contributions in any single community, and never post the same link to multiple communities within the same day - cross-community velocity is the pattern spam filters look for.
6. When a post is removed, message the mods once, politely, asking what to change, and accept the answer. A second appeal is how a removal becomes a ban.

## Where this goes wrong
- creating a fresh account to post links, which is the single strongest ban signal on Reddit
- coordinating votes or asking colleagues to upvote, which is site-wide bannable and easy to detect
- treating a shadow-removal as a technical glitch and posting again, which escalates it to a domain-level block
