Nothing was published

The work was made but never went live. How to read the card, the three switches that decide whether anything goes out, and what each refusal means.

5 Min. Lesezeit All plans

Almost always, the work exists. A post or an article that was written and never sent is sitting on your calendar, not gone. The card tells you which of two very different problems you have.

HIER STARTEN Open the Calendar and find the item. A card on Draft was never asked to go out — that is a settings problem. A post marked Failed was asked and refused, and it carries the reason — that is a connection problem. Fix the one you actually have.

Read the status first

Article cards and post cards use nearly the same words. These are the ones that matter when something has not appeared.

THE CARD SAYSWHAT IT MEANSWHAT TO DO
Draft The copy is written and waiting. Nothing was ever asked to send it. Publish it yourself, or change the switch that would have.
Scheduled It is on the clock for a time still to come. Nothing. It goes out at its slot.
Processing The send timed out while the network was still working on it. Retrying is safe.
Failed On a post, it was sent and refused. On an article, writing it failed. The reason is on the card. On a post, fix the reason and press Retry publish. On an article, press Generate nowPre-generate if its date is still ahead.
Published It went out. Facebook and YouTube posts carry a “View on …” link; the rest show the post ID the network gave back.

The three switches that decide whether anything goes out

All three have to agree, and two of them start in the safe position on purpose.

  • Autopilot starts Off on every agent. Off means the agent does not run at all, so nothing is written and nothing is sent.
  • Only the Publish it mode publishes. On Draft it and Ask me, the work is made and left on your calendar — whatever a channel’s own switch says. The mode is the instruction that wins.
  • On a post you saved yourself, the tick-box Send it on its own at this time is what puts it on the clock. Leave it unticked and the date only files the post on the calendar; nothing goes out until you publish it.

The two halves of the product start from different places, which catches people out. The Social Copywriter’s per-channel Publish on its own is off out of the box, so a finished draft waits for you. The Copywriter’s Auto-publish is on out of the box — but the autopilot mode still overrules it, so an article written on Draft it stays a draft.

Send it now

1
Open the card on the Calendar
While an agent is still working on an item you cannot edit or delete it — the calendar asks you to wait for it to finish.
2
Check every channel has copy
Channels with nothing written yet are skipped and named rather than sent empty. Use Write the post to fill them in.
3
Press Publish now
Your edits are saved first, then every channel is sent. One channel refusing does not stop the others going out.
4
For an article, press Publish on the card
It pushes the article to your website’s publishing destination. A published article cannot be dragged afterwards — its date is set by where it was published.

When the card says Failed

A post that fails to publish is marked failed with the reason on it. It is never left stuck, and the button becomes Retry publish.

THE REASON READSWHAT HAPPENEDTHE FIX
… is not connected That channel has no connection on this website. Connect it on the Integrations page, then retry.
… needs a Page Facebook and Pinterest need a Page or a board picked after connecting. Pick one on the Integrations page.
… is connected through the old connector The connection predates the current one. Reconnect it on the Integrations page. It is one click.
Nothing to publish The post was planned but never written, so it went back to planned. Write the post first, then publish it.
The media does not suit the channel For example a text-only post sent to a channel that needs a photo or a video. Add a picture, or drop that channel from the post.

You can plan and write a post for a channel before that channel is connected. The chip on the drawer says it cannot publish until you connect it, and the refusal comes at send time rather than the post being silently dropped.

When your plan is the reason

Publishing is a separate thing from generating, and it is gated separately. Publishing to social channels needs an active plan with social publishing — the trial covers generation only. Publishing an article to your website needs a plan with CMS publishing; writing the article does not include pushing it out.

There is one more case worth knowing: if auto-publish is on for articles but no publishing destination is connected at all, the article is saved as a draft and the run says exactly that. Nothing is lost, and you can connect a destination and publish it afterwards.
