Community Local Link Earning

Local link building gets confused with citation building. Directories confirm identity, whereas links from local news, clubs, suppliers and institutions confirm relevance to a place, and that is what separates two profiles which are otherwise equal. The default approach of buying generic guest posts adds no geographic signal at all. The hard part is having something a local organisation would want to link to, which is normally something offline.

Use when a business has a clean profile and correct citations but sits below competitors, and the site has no links from any organisation in the area it trades in.

# Community Local Link Earning

Local link building gets confused with citation building. Directories confirm identity, whereas links from local news, clubs, suppliers and institutions confirm relevance to a place, and that is what separates two profiles which are otherwise equal. The default approach of buying generic guest posts adds no geographic signal at all. The hard part is having something a local organisation would want to link to, which is normally something offline.

## Qué necesitas antes

- Backlink exports for the top three map pack competitors, filtered to domains with a physical or editorial footprint in the area
- A list of organisations the business already deals with: suppliers, trade bodies, clubs, schools, charities, insurers, accountants
- An asset the business can actually offer: sponsorship budget, venue space, equipment, staff time, a bursary or a training place
- The specific location or service pages that should receive links, rather than the homepage

## Método

1. Filter competitor backlinks down to locally connected domains first, since that constraint is what stops the project drifting into ordinary national outreach.
2. Mine existing commercial relationships before prospecting cold. Suppliers with stockist pages, trade bodies with member directories, and professional firms with client lists will usually add a link on request.
3. Prospect by institution type rather than by individual site: local news, council and chamber pages, sports clubs, schools and colleges, event calendars, charity sponsor lists. The query patterns are reusable across every business in the same region.
4. Match one offerable asset to each prospect type before contacting anyone. Sponsorship earns a club page, hosting a meetup earns an event listing, a genuinely useful local resource earns a news mention, and outreach with nothing to offer returns nothing.
5. Point each link at the relevant location or service page, because the destination is what gains the geographic relevance and the homepage rarely needs it.
6. Check every placed link renders in the HTML source and is not inside a script-built sponsor carousel, which is common on club and charity sites and means the link does not exist for a crawler.
7. Record cost and effort per placed link, and renew only the categories that repaid. Sponsorships come up annually and the weak ones quietly become a standing cost.

## Qué produce esto

A local prospect list with contact, asset offered, target page and cost, plus a register of links actually placed and confirmed to render.

## Dónde falla esto

- Counting directory citations as links, when most carry nofollow or sit on pages with no crawl value and add nothing to place relevance
- Buying sponsorships purely for the link: paying for links is against Google guidance, the industry is genuinely split on where community sponsorship ends and paid linking begins, and bulk purchases from sponsor list pages are the version most likely to be discounted
- Sending every earned link to the homepage, so the location pages that need the relevance never receive any
- Chasing national publications for a business trading in one town, which costs more and confirms nothing about the place
