Bylines and Author Pages That Hold Up
Sites respond to guidance about experience and expertise by inventing author personas with stock photographs, which is a fabricated claim about an apparently real person and does nothing for the reader who checks. The opposite failure, publishing everything under the company name, throws away the credibility of the people who actually did the work. The honest middle is harder: decide what each name on a page is claiming and make sure that claim is checkable elsewhere. Whether author markup and bios affect rankings is genuinely disputed, so make the case on reader trust and on not publishing things that are untrue.

# Bylines and Author Pages That Hold Up
Sites respond to guidance about experience and expertise by inventing author personas with stock photographs, which is a fabricated claim about an apparently real person and does nothing for the reader who checks.
## ما تحتاجه أولًا
- an honest account of who wrote, who reviewed and who supplied the expertise for each page type
- consent from every named person, freelancers included, to be credited and described
- off-site evidence for each claimed credential: a professional register, a conference listing, a public profile
- a decided policy on how model-assisted drafting is disclosed
## الطريقة
1. Decide what a byline on your site means before assigning any: author, reviewer, or both named separately. Sites that never define it end up crediting whoever pasted the draft into the CMS.
2. Split writer from expert wherever they differ and say so on the page. Written by A, reviewed by B, a practising C, is accurate and reads stronger than pretending one person did both.
3. Give every named person a page carrying evidence a reader can leave the site and check: a register entry, work published elsewhere, a real professional profile. A bio that exists only on your own site proves nothing.
4. Cut any credential you cannot evidence rather than softening its wording. An unverifiable claim is the one thing here that actively damages you.
5. Delete invented personas and stock-photo authors instead of upgrading them. Reassigning old posts to a real name is a much smaller job than defending a fabrication later.
6. Agree the disclosure line for model-assisted drafting and apply it to every page it covers. Inconsistent disclosure reads worse than either policy applied evenly.
7. Recheck named authors whenever people leave. Bylines belonging to staff who left three years ago are the commonest way an author page quietly becomes false.
## ما الذي تنتجه
A written byline policy plus author pages carrying externally verifiable evidence for every credential they claim.
## أين تخطئ عادةً
- Creating author personas with stock photographs, which is a fabricated claim about a real-sounding person and the exact risk this method exists to remove
- Listing credentials that appear nowhere else, so the one reader who checks finds nothing and the page loses more trust than an anonymous one would have
- Adding author schema while leaving the bios thin, which formalises a claim without supporting it
